The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
The only man ever to win back-to-back coach of the year awards in the NHL, Jacques Demers accomplished the rare feat as his Detroit Red Wings soared to lofty heights during the 1987-88 season. After going from a 40-point season up to 78 in Demers' first year behind the bench, the Wings bettered their total by another 15, finishing atop the Norris Division with 41 wins and 93 points. The Wings again made it to the Stanley Cup semi-finals but were ousted by a powerful Oilers team. The NHL Broadcasters Association recognized Demers' efforts and again presented him with the Jack Adams Award. His personal miniature features a hockey player atop a handled and covered cup while an image of the former Red Wings Hall-of-Famer is on a metal plaque that explains the award. Engraving on a plaque below reads "Jacques Demers - Detroit Red Wings - 1987-88". The trophy stands 16" high while the base measures approximately 13" x 7". Seldom offered award is in gorgeous, can't-expect-nicer condition and has been autographed underneath. Jacques Demers will also sign a LOA that will accompany this terrific trophy.
