The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Following three seasons at the helm of the St. Louis Blues, Jacques Demers took on a big challenge in Detroit in 1986. Demers' work as head coach turned the struggling Red Wings (just 17 wins and 40 points in ‘85-86) into a contender as Detroit racked up 34 wins and 78 points. Excitement and enthusiasm had returned to the Motor City and the Wings made it all the way to the Stanley Cup semi-finals. Demers' excellent work behind the bench was rewarded at season's end as he was named the NHL's coach of the year and received the Jack Adams Award. His personal miniature features a hockey player atop a handled and covered cup while an image of the former Red Wings Hall-of-Famer is on a metal plaque that explains the award. Engraving on a plaque below reads "Jacques Demers - Detroit Red Wings - 1986-87". The trophy stands 16" high while the base measures approximately 13" x 7". The first such award we've ever offered, it is in beautiful near mint condition and has been autographed underneath by Jacques Demers, who will also sign a LOA to be included.
