The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Fascinating story accompanies this historic goal puck from Jean Beliveau's first of two seasons in the Quebec Senior Hockey League. The Quebec Aces' star had waged a season-long battle with the Montreal Royals' Les Douglas for the scoring title and in the last game of the season, Sunday, March 2nd at the Montreal Forum scored with this puck at 19:35 of the 3rd period to give Quebec a 3-1 lead and clinch the scoring championship for himself. Beliveau had overtaken Douglas the previous night in Quebec City with a magnificent 3-goal, 2-assist performance against Chicoutimi and had assisted on Marcel Bonin's 2nd period goal, while Douglas scored in the 3rd to pull within one point of Beliveau. The last minute goal gave Beliveau 83 points to Douglas' 81. A piece of white tape was applied over the chipped orange logo of the Art Ross Tyer puck, had details added in ballpoint and then was mounted on a triangular wooden plaque. Exhibiting a few nicks/chips around the edge, the sensational piece of hockey history will be accompanied by Jean Beliveau's signed LOA.
