The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Fond memories for Jean Beliveau with this neat white and red knit jersey which he wore in an exhibition game the season after retiring from the NHL in 1971. Mr. Beliveau relates the story of how he was picked up by authorities at the St. Hubert (south shore Montreal) airport and flown to Colorado Springs to take part in the game. Beliveau donned this sweater and played for the NORAD team, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, which provides warning of missile and air attack against Canada and the United States, safeguards the air sovereignty of North America and provides air defense forces against air attack. Beliveau recalls the beautiful rink at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and the big-time treatment he received there. His NORAD jersey has a Maska tag in the neck along with another indicating size 46. The red maple leaf on the front and "Beliveau" across the cloth nameplate are in felt and sewn-on. Big Jean's number "4" is also sewn-on. A little bit of sweat-staining around the neckline reveals that Beliveau forced somewhat during the game! Preserved in outstanding condition, this special jersey will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by the legendary Jean Beliveau.
