The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Obtained directly from one of hockey's all-time greatest players not to mention hockey's premier ambassador over the years, this fabulous Canadiens wool jersey is the real deal! A great 1-inch team repair at the left elbow and significant pilling both inside and out will excite and satisfy vintage jersey collectors who fall into the "big-time" category. There are also a half dozen pinhead-size holes on the front, a couple of more in the double-knit shoulders, an unrepaired hole in the upper white stripe of the right sleeve and a 3-inch by half-inch vertical stain above the left edge of the Canadiens logo. Corrosion to the backs of the six eyelets and a paint chip on the front of one are other notables. The tie-down wool sweater features a sewn-on crest and Jean's number "4" on the back which have become crinkled over the years. Beliveau's captain's "C" and small "4"s on the sleeves are also sewn-on. Original manufacturer's tag in the neck is no longer present while a "Dry Clean With Care" tag is in the inner hem. Jersey which was on display at Montreal's Bell Centre, has been preserved in outstanding and breathtaking condition and we have indeed been able to find a photo match for it. The nicest Beliveau gamer that we've had the honor of handling, it will come with Jean Beliveau's signed letter of authenticity. Awesome! *startred* After further research we wanted to make customers aware that the original photomatch on this jersey is not 100% conclusive. All the jerseys from that period (late 1960's) are very similar and it is difficult to affirm 100% that it is a photomatch. We believe a little more research would very easily lead to a 100% photomatch has this jersey as the most game use we have seen on a Beliveau jersey from that period and regardless if the photomatch is 100% or not, it is still by far the finest Beliveau sweater we have ever seen. It WONT get any better then this one. *endred*
