The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
The 1967-68 NHL season saw radical change as the 6 expansion teams doubled the league's size. Meanwhile Jean Beliveau more than doubled his goal output from the previous season, scoring 31 goals including career #400. The classy center didn't take long to join Howe and Richard in the 400-goal club, registering the milestone in the season opener in Pittsburgh where the Penguins played their first game ever. Beliveau's early 2nd period goal (0:52) on Hank Bassen was assisted by Yvan Cournoyer and proved to be the game winner. Gilles Tremblay had scored in the opening period while Andy Bathgate's 3rd period marker deprived Rogie Vachon of a shutout. A little over 9300 witnessed the historic game and goal. The stick that Beliveau did it with has "Beliveau 4" stamped on the front of the shaft along with "McNiece's". The sides are stamped "CCM Custom Pro" with "400 Buts Pittsburgh" added on one side and two mounting hooks on the other. White tape covering black forms the knob while the blade was taped with black. Light game use includes black tape/puck marks on the blade and lower shaft. There's a time crack in the middle of the tip of the blade but the stick is solid and in outstanding condition. From Jean Beliveau's personal collection, this sensational milestone stick will be accompanied by his signed LOA.
