The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
In his 10th NHL season and only the 6th player in the history of the league to do so, Jean Beliveau used this piece of lumber to register his 300th regular season goal early in 1963. The historic goal came Saturday night, January 26th as the New York Rangers visited the Montreal Forum. Beliveau's 8th of the season came at 8:18 of the 1st period and tied the game 1-1. Future teammate Gump Worsley was the victim with assists going to Claude Provost and Jean Gauthier. The goal came with a man advantage, the Rangers' Rod Gilbert in the box at the time. Former teammate Doug Harvey broke the tie later in the 1st and New York went on to a 4-2 win with Jean-Guy Talbot scoring after the visitors were ahead 4-1. Big Jean's milestone stick is a CCM Custom Pro model with "Beliveau" and "4" stamped on the front of the shaft. "300 But" (goal) was added in blue ballpoint to one side of the shaft while the other has two mounting hooks. White tape covers black to form Beliveau's usual knob job while the original black tape still covers half of the blade. Great game use is evidenced by the numerous black puck marks on the lower shaft and unprotected part of the blade. There are a couple of time cracks visible at the tip of the blade but the stick remains in excellent, solid condition. One of the game's all-time greats, Jean Beliveau will sign a LOA that will be included with this fantastic piece of hockey history.
