The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Jean Beliveau and "his" Montreal Canadiens had a memorable 1967-68 season, capped off by their 3rd Stanley Cup in 4 years. Beliveau opened the season with career goal #400 and would later collect his 1000th point while leading the team in goals (31) and points (68). On top of all that was the honor of tying and passing the legendary Rocket Richard as the Canadiens all-time point-getter. It was during a Thursday, December 18th 6-2 win over the visiting expansion Minnesota North Stars that the feat was accomplished. Beliveau set up Claude Provost in the 1st period then helped Gilles Tremblay score his 1st ever hat trick, a natural one during a 3:41 span in the 2nd. The record was tied at 14:03 and then fell at 15:04 on Tremblay's 2nd goal on former Habs prospect Gary Bauman. A crowd of 15,155 witnessed the spectacle. The record-breaking puck is a scarce Art Ross/Converse affair which had a piece of white tape with some of the details applied over the Canadiens logo. The historic puck, with a skate slice on the back edge, was once part of a multi-milestone puck display and could be remounted on a plaque that we've had made, if the winner so desires. Jean Beliveau will sign a LOA that will be included with this terrific piece from one of the most special nights of his glorious career.
