The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Montreal Canadiens' formidable captain Jean Beliveau showed no signs of aging in 1965-66, finishing 4th in league scoring with 77 points before leading the Habs to their 2nd straight Stanley Cup championship with 10 points (5 goals) in the playoffs, including the Cup-winning goal. It was towards the end of the regular season, Wednesday, March 2nd, that Beliveau potted career goal #380 to move him into 3rd place on the all-time goal list ahead of Ted Lindsay. The game at Maple Leaf Gardens saw the two teams trade goals in each period and end up tying 3-3. The milestone goal came at 11:27 of the 2nd period and put the Habs up 2-1. Bruce Gamble was the victim with linemates Gilles Tremblay and Yvan Cournoyer helping out. Kelly, Mahovlich and Armstrong scored for Toronto with 14,996 fans in attendance. The gorgeous Art Ross Tyer/CCM Leafs puck features rubber-crested logos and has the date, the place and "380 Buts" added to a piece of white tape applied to the back. No chips here, just a couple of light skate slices on the edge to mention. At the request of Mr. Beliveau we've had a plaque made for it. The winning bidder will have the choice of how to mount the puck if so desired. Jean Beliveau will sign a LOA to be included with this fantastic piece of hockey history.
