The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Several historic moments occurred on Sunday, October 11, 1967, at the "Igloo" in Pittsburgh. The season-opening game was the first ever for the Penguins, the first ever between an Original Six team and an expansion team, and Jean Beliveau became only the third NHL player ever to reach the 400-goal mark. Beliveau's goal at 0:52 of the 2nd period was assisted by Yvan Counoyer and proved to be the game winner; Gilles Tremblay had opened the scoring for the Habs in the 1st while Andy Bathgate scored the Penguins 1st goal ever in the 3rd to spoil Rogie Vachon's shutout bid. This is the puck that Beliveau put past Hank Bassen in front of the crowd of 9307. A piece of white tape with some of the details was originally applied to the blank-backed Converse rubber-crested puck. The other side has a screw hole from having been incorporated into a multi-puck display. We've had a new individual plaque made with an engraved plate and will let the winning bidder decide whether to remount the puck or not. It is in near mint condition with no nicks, chips or slices. Another highlight of Jean Beliveau's awesome milestone puck collection, it will be accompanied by his signed LOA.
