The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Montreal Canadiens team captain and leader extraordinaire, Jean Beliveau used this puck to join the 300-goal club which at the time only included 5 members. The historic goal came Saturday night, January 26, 1963 as the New York Rangers visited the Montreal Forum. Beliveau's 8th of the season came at 8:18 of the 1st period and tied the game 1-1. Future teammate Gump Worsley was the victim with assists going to Claude Provost and Jean Gauthier. The goal was scored on the powerplay with the Rangers' Rod Gilbert in the penalty box. Longtime former teammate Doug Harvey broke the tie later in the 1st and New York went on to a 4-2 win. The milestone goal puck has a rubber-crested Habs logo on one side with "300" added in pen while the other side reveals that it is an Official Art Ross Tyer/CCM biscuit. It was later part of a multi-puck plaque display and thus has a hole drilled in one side. We've had a handsome wooden plaque made with details listed on an engraved plate. It will be the high bidder's choice to remount the puck or not. The puck is in excellent condition with a couple of character-enhancing slices on the front edge. From Jean Beliveau's personal collection, the tempting lot will also include his signed LOA.
