The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
The Montreal Canadiens continued to be the class of the NHL in the late 1950's and Jean Beliveau continued to be the league's dominent center. Beliveau led the league in ‘58-59 with 45 goals and finished runner-up to scoring champion Dickie Moore. The pair had one of those "crazy"' nights on Saturday, March 7th at the old Forum, combining for 13 points including Beliveau's 200th career goal. The Canadiens pasted the Red Wings 10-2 with Beliveau having his most productive night ever, scoring 4 times and assisting on 3 others while Moore ended the night with 6 points, 2 of them goals. After 2 goals and 2 assists in the 1st period, Beliveau capped off the night with the milestone marker at 13:31 of the 3rd, becoming the quickest to ever reach 200 goals. Marcel Bonin, who picked up 5 assists while playing alongside Beliveau and Moore, and Doug Harvey drew assists on the goal scored on Terry Sawchuk. The Official Art Ross Tyer/CCM game puck with rubber-crested logos had "200" added in pen on one side. It was later part of a multi-puck plaque display and thus has a hole drilled in one side. We've had a handsome wooden plaque made with details listed on an engraved plate. It will be the winning bidder's choice to remount the puck or not. The puck is in excellent condition with no chip or slices. A LOA signed by the legendary Jean Beliveau will be included with this splendid keepsake.
