The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
It didn't take long for Jean Beliveau to establish himself as the best center in all of hockey. In arguably his best season ever, the 24-year old reached superstar status in the ‘55-56 season as he led the league in scoring (Art Ross trophy), was voted the NHL's MVP (Hart trophy) and tied Rocket Richard's record with 12 playoff goals as the Canadiens started their incredible run of 5 consecutive Stanley Cup titles, the first for Beliveau. This is the puck Jean used to reach the initial milestone of 100 goals while at the same time tying Joe Malone's single season goal record for a center. Beliveau's 2nd of the game was #44 on the season and #100 overall. It came with just under 3 minutes to go and was the insurance goal in a 6-4 win in Detroit on Sunday, March 4th. Boom Boom Geoffrion assisted on the goal, scored on Glenn Hall. The Art Ross Tyer/CCM puck was then retrieved and had "100" added in ink to one of the rubber logos. The puck was later incorporated into a puck display featuring Beliveau's 100th, 200th, 300th and 400th career goal pucks and which was on display at Montreal's Bell Centre. At the request of Mr. Beliveau, we've had a new plaque produced and will give the high bidder the choice of remounting the puck or not. The close to 50-year old relic is in excellent condition with a nick, a skate slice and a few small chips on the edges to mention. Great piece from a great season will be accompanied by Jean Beliveau's signed letter of authenticity.
