The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Jean Beliveau has said that the creation of this award is one of his proudest moments in hockey, ranking right up there with when, in 1961, he was elected by his teammates to the captaincy of the Montreal Canadiens. Established in 1996, the metal plate explains the trophy: "To a player for their outstanding playing ability and international experience while maintaining the fundamentals of sportsmanship and fair play". An engraved maple leaf to the left lists Wayne Gretzky as the inaugural winner. The Great One received it after the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. The Team Canada red, white and black Lucite logo stands upon the 13" x 8" black wooden footed base. A very proud Canadian, Jean Beliveau will sign a LOA that will be included.
