The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
By the time Jean Beliveau had played just three NHL seasons, he had earned superstar status and was considered the league's most valuable player. His ‘55-56 season included a league-high 47 goals, the Art Ross Trophy as scoring champion and a place on the 1st All-Star Team. This towering trophy was presented to Beliveau by his Alma Mater, Victoriaville's Sacré Coeur (Sacred Heart) College. The engraved metal plate reveals (in French) that the trophy was for having led the league in scoring and that it was made at the workshops of Victoriaville's Arts and Crafts School. The heavy award with an oval-shaped two-tier wooden base features three pillar-like affairs, one of which supports a pewter or pewter-like hockey player. The Canadiens' logo, crossed hockey sticks and pucks at the corners are also part of the footed award. Definitely a one-of-a-kind trophy, it is in overall excellent condition and will come with a photo of Jean Beliveau receiving it, along with his signed LOA.
