Rivals in the Canadian Division, the New York Americans and Ottawa Senators faced off for a NHL regular season match at the Ottawa Auditorium on Tuesday, February 3, 1931. Hec Kilrea and Danny Cox scored to give the Sens an early two-goal lead but the Amerks responded with four unanswered goals with HOFer Red Dutton picking up a pair of assists in the visitors’ 4-2 win. The Americans finished with 46 points, the same as the Montreal Maroons, but did not qualify for the playoffs having finished with two less wins. Cash-strapped Ottawa had sold off stars like King Clancy to keep afloat but finished last in the division with a record of 10-30-4 and suspended operations for a year the following season. The final score is noted in pencil with check marks applied to the goal scorers in the lineup in the centerfold of this four-page affair that lists the two lineups and is otherwise comprised of period advertising. Nearly 100 years old, the program has a light vertical crease in the middle and is otherwise in lovely condition considering its age. Great piece of early NHL history!
