Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/24/2025
A labour of love, and a hard task to replicate, we offer a very desirable 1981-82 Topps hockey card near-complete signed set (197/198) including Wayne Gretzky. First, the Gretzky card has been encapsulated as "Authentic Auto" by PSA, and it features a blue fibre-tip signature, with the just the very beginning of the signature somewhat light from a weak marker. The card itself shows some minor corner wear.
Next, there are rookie cards signed by Kurri, Stastny, Savard, Murphy & Ciccarelli, with each sporting nice, bold signatures. The deceased HOFers who signed include Bossy (3, his regular card, #57 Team Leader card and #125 Super Action card), Esposito (2, his regular card and #126 Super Action card), Lafleur and Salming, followed by the living HOFers with Trottier, Potvin and Bourque (2 for each of these players, regular card and Super Action card), McDonald (2, regular card and Team Leader), Barber, Federko and Dionne (3 for each of these players, regular card, Team Leader and Super Action card), Shutt and Stastny (Team Leader cards), Park, Gainey, Robinson, Shutt, Sittler, Keon, Vachon, M. Howe, Smith, Gillies, Clarke, Gartner and Wilson.
Missing only #52 Wayne Gretzky Team Leader card for completion, additionally, checklist #120 West is not signed, card #41 Bryan Trottier has a JSA sticker affixed on its back, and card #56 Montreal Canadiens scoring leaders Steve Shutt card has a James Spence sticker affixed to its back.
Most of the cards show light wear to their corners, with the better cards shown on this listing to show their conditions. The majority of the signed cards appear to feature nice and clean signatures with only a small percentage of the autographs having smudges or being light/pale.
