Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025

Hailing from the 1939-40 NHL season due to the distinct single-season jerseys with solid blue stars arching over the chest and the thick red bands on the bottom, we offer a trio of original New York Americans photos including examples signed by Lorne Carr (this is the image used for Carr's 1939-40 O-Pee-Chee V301-1 card!) and Eddie Wiseman, along with a photo believed to be Al Murray, with the fourth photo John Gallagher in the jersey of the 1930 Allan Cup champion Montreal Amateur Athletic Association (Gallagher played 9 games for the Americans in 1936-37, 52 games in 1937-38 including playoffs and 45 games including playoffs in 1938-39. The Kenora native was also a Stanley Cup champion with the Detroit Red Wings in 1937).
The three photos of Americans in uniform are all 8" x 10" and appear matching in style, taken at the same time, with the Carr and Wiseman both beautifully signed in black ink, with the signatures flawless. All three photos show surface wear, indentations and a few creases, with an edge tear to the Carr and a small piece missing in the upper left on the Murray. The reverses all remain blank with a bit of discolouration to the Murray. The Gallagher photo is 5" x 8", and it shows wear including a few large creases. From the collection of John Gallagher, we should note that Wiseman passed away in 1977 at the age of 65, while Carr left us in 2007 at the age of 96.
