Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/24/2025
Defeated by the eventual Stanley Cup finalist Toronto Maple Leafs during the first round of the 1939 Stanley Cup playoffs, the New York Americans would be led by Sweeney Schriner’s team-leading 44 points, along with the 19 goals posted by Lorne Carr in 47 regular-season games. We have a rare real photo postcard of the 1938-39 New York Americans, featuring HOFers Nels Stewart, Hooley Smith, Sweeney Schriner and coach Red Dutton. A real photo in solid tones as opposed to the sepia-image postcards usually encountered with this image, the postcard is the standard 3 1/2" x 5 1/2", with the full team pictured in uniform, on-ice, lined up in a row. The postcard reverse is faded with no writing, with just a few tiny blemishes, while the front has numerous lines that break the surface, and a few creases, along with corner wear and a small stain.
