Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/24/2025
Leading the NHL twice in scoring, Max Bentley saw over two decades of professional hockey, with his NHL time split mostly between Chicago and Toronto. The Hart Memorial Trophy winner in 1946, Bentley was a four-time All-Star and member of three Stanley Cup championship Leafs teams. This hardcover edition from 1975 with dust jacket of The Leafs in Autumn has been signed by the 1943 Lady Byng Trophy winner. Featuring Syl Apps holding the Stanley Cup on the dust jacket, Bentley has signed the first page in blue ballpoint, adding a personalization along with "All the best". The signature remains as dark as the day it was penned with no issues, while the book shows a split along the hinge on the cover that continues from the bottom to nearly the top, with some additional wear to the dust jacket including a tear and missing piece at the top of the spine. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1966, Bentley passed away in 1984 at the age of 63.
