Originally founded in 1873 and currently the oldest professional sports team in North America still using its original name, as well as the oldest-surviving team in both the modern-day CFL and East Division. The team's origins date back to a modified version of rugby football that emerged in North America in the latter half of the 19th century. Having won a total of nineteen (19) Grey Cup championships throughout their history, with the most recent occurring in 2024, offered here is this vintage Argos game-worn jersey that dates from the mid-to-late-1980s. A mesh construction offering made by Russell Athletic and first worn by the team during the 1985 CFL season, a brand label displaying size "48" labeling is affixed to the lower front. Decorated over the shoulders with Toronto's famed boat logo and blue and white stripes over the ends of both sleeves, all in a heavy screened on style, heavy "70" numerals are found over the front and reverse in white that is outlined with light blue, once again in a heavy screened on style. Of note, due to numerous wears and washings plus age, the screened portions of the jersey's design show cracking. Having had a Champion logo patch sewn on over the right side of the front, indicating that the jersey was recycled for used between 1986 and 1988 as well, research shows that the number was first worn in 1985 by James Reed and Frank Robinson with other wearers possibly being Doug Mikolas (1986), Dan Sellers (1987) and Harold Hallman (1988). Showing heavy game-wear with evidence of numerous nameplates having been applied over the upper reverse throughout its history, with adhesive residue still easily visible, also present are numerous team repairs, hit and pressure marks, unrepaired holes and paint transfers.
