Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/24/2025
The 19th season of play in the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the blue and white dressed club would finish the 1935-36 National Hockey League regular season with a record of 23–19–6 to place second (2nd) in the four (4) team Canadian Division, sandwiched between the Montreal Maroons and New York Americans. Knocking off both the Boston Bruins and the New York Americans in the Stanley Cup Quarter and Semi-Finals to set up a Finals matchup against the Detroit Red Wings, the Maple Leafs would go down in the best-of-five series by a count of 3 games to 1. Offered here, we present this program from Game 3 of the 1936 Stanley Cup Finals between the Maple Leafs and Red Wings at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens, a contest that saw the Leafs win their only game of the series by a score of 4-3 on the back of Buzz Boll's overtime winner. Featuring artwork of a Maple Leafs player by J. Ernest Sampson over the front cover while a Winchester Cigarettes advertisement graces the reverse, the 72-page program is complete including the center line-up, while the front cover has been stamped with the date of "APR 9-1936". Missing the top left corner of pages 67 to 72 on the interior, which also includes advertisements from numerous familiar companies as well as those from CCM, Brown’s Sports and Love & Bennett also. Exhibiting moderate handling wear throughout the entirety of the book, including some toning to the pages on the interior, spine/edge/corner wear, the odd edge tear to the pages, the aforementioned missing corners and creasing, it is noteworthy that the staples remain tight (there is a bit of separation at the top one) despite the age of the program overall.
