Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/24/2025
A veteran of ten (10) seasons in the National Hockey League with the likes of Montreal, Hamilton and Boston, Wilfrid "Billy" Coutu would win a Stanley Cup in with the Habs in 1924 and would serve as the team's captain for the 1925-26 campaign. Known for his fiery temper and still the only player ever to have been banned from the NHL for life, as a result of his attack on a referee in 1927, offered here is this copy of Coutu's 1924-25 Champ's Cigarettes C144 hockey card. Pictured over the front of the card in a ghostly black-and-white image wearing his Canadiens uniform, the card has been inspected and encapsulated by PSA, who have deemed it worthy of a VG-EX 4 designation for its effort. A POP 4 example with only ten (10) ever having been graded higher by the company over the years, the card is housed in a PSA holder that remains in good condition overall despite some minor imperfections seen over both sides.
