Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/24/2025
Forever revolutionized the game of hockey as the first goaltender to regularly wear a mask in competition—a move that forever changed the position, Jacques Plante's innovative style, including his ability to play the puck and communicate with his defensemen, set new standards for goaltending. Over his remarkable career, Plante won six Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens and captured seven Vezina Trophies. His 1962 Hart Trophy win cemented his legacy as one of the greatest netminders of all-time. Traded to the New York Rangers from the Habs before the start of the 1963-64 season, offered here is this copy of Plante's 1963-64 Topps card that hails from his first season as a member of the Blueshirts. Featuring a headshot image of Plante over one side and a small action image of the man he was largely traded to the Rangers for in Gump Worsely over the right edge, the card retains sharp corners, good centering, bold colours and white borders, all sentiments shared by PSA, who graded the card and slabbed it with their high-grade mark of NM-MT 8. The card is housed in a PSA holder that remains in overall excellent condition.
