Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/24/2025
One of the most famous and successful of all early hockey teams, and first competing at the 1884 Montreal Winter Carnival, the Ottawa Hockey Club was the first organized team in Ontario, and later served as a founding member of the National Hockey League. The club would utilize numerous nicknames throughout their existence, including the Generals in the 19th century, the Silver Seven from 1903 to approx 1907, and most famously, the Senators, beginning in 1908. This rare and highly desirable antique postcard features the 1905 Stanley Cup-champion Silver Seven. A colourized image – rare for the era, the Ottawa seven are pictured with the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup, including legendary HOFers Frank "One-Eyed" McGee, Harvey Pulford, Rat Westwick and others. "Merry Xmas" is handwritten on the front, with a signature and "Cardinal, Ont" on the reverse. There is also a "Dec 22 1905" postmark stamp, with the Canadian 1 cent stamp still affixed. Regarding condition, there are a number of creases visible on the front and reverse including two large examples, along with some corner wear.
