Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025

Sporting a checklist that consisted of 526-cards in all and the Canadian counterpart to the 1972 Topps set that was found south of the border, the 1972 O-Pee-Chee Baseball release differs from the Topps set via the “Made in Canada” tagline and the fact that information is printed in both English and French. Anchored by Hall of Famers and stars that include Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays, and Pete Rose, offered here is this 1972 O-Pee-Chee Baseball empty wax pack box. Once housing thirty-six (36) packs that contained eight (8) cards each along with a stick of bubble gum, a yellow coloured label reading "2nd Series" is affixed over the top display lid, with names that could have been unearthed from packs in the series including Orlando Cepeda, Joe Niekro, Lou Brock, Dock Ellis and many others (the 2nd series included cards #'d 133 to 263). Measuring roughly 10 3/4" x 4" x 2 1/2", the box displays "BASEBALL" over the top lid, front and both sides in groovy era appropriate letters while generic imagery of a ballpark is found in the same areas as well. With the backside of the box sporting a Bazooka bubble gum ad, the top display lid also lists the original per pack purchase price of .10 cents. In overall good condition and showing some edge and corner wear throughout the entirety of the vintage relic, a pair of tape residue marks are seen over the right side on the front of the box and there is a crease/small tear in the display lid just above the players head. Additionally, there is some light foxing/spotting on the backside of the box which is worth mentioning for accuracy. Of note, the box is sealed in a cellophane wrap and because of this we are unable to verify the condition of the interior.
