Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/24/2025
Fundamentally the same as the 1968 Topps Baseball release and featuring a checklist of 196-cards in all, the cards are easily distinguished from their American counterparts by the "Printed in Canada" designation found on the reverses. Paced by the key Hall of Fame rookie card of Nolan Ryan from the New York Mets, up on the auction block here is this empty 1968 O-Pee-Chee Baseball wax box. Once housing a total of thirty-six (36) packs that each included a stick of gum and picture cards on the interior, the box is a near 1:1 copy of the one used by Topps for their 1968 packs, with action imagery of Mickey Mantle taking a cut at the plate seen over the top display lid as well as "BASEBALL" and even a Topps logo to go along with an original per-pack-purchase-price designation of .05 cents. With the front edge advertising the pin up picture inserts that were found one (1) per pack, the backside shows a Bazooka advertisement as well. Sealed in cellophane and presenting in overall excellent condition for its effort, some minor corner and edge wear is seen throughout the vintage relic as well as some creasing to the top display lid and a small tear to the right of "Gum" on the lid as well. Furthermore, there is some toning/staining seen throughout, especially seen around the white border at the top of the display lid and over the bottom of the box. Of note, due to the cellophane seal, we can not see what the inside of the box looks like condition wise.
