Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025

A product of the WCHL's Regina Pats who helped his junior club to a Memorial Cup championship in 1974, Clark Gillies would be drafted 4th overall by the NHL's New York Islanders in the Summer of 1974, as well as 37th overall by the WHA's Edmonton Oilers. Choosing to go the route of the National Hockey League and suiting up for a total of 958 with both the Islanders and Buffalo Sabres, Gillies would win a four (4) straight Stanley Cup championships in New York between 1980 and 1983. Serving as captain of the Islanders from 1977 to 1979 and being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002, offered here is this stick used by Gillies during the 1981-82 season that resulted in New York winning their third (3rd) of four (4) straight Cups. A Titan TPM model stick with "C. Gillies" stamped over the upper shaft below a number "9" that has been penned in blue marker, the stick retains its original tape job or ribbed white around the handle/knob and black around the blade. Sporting a date stamp reading "AOUT 24 1981" over the underside of the lower shaft as well as a "CG" pattern code in pencil above the heel, the stick remains structurally sound and shows evidence of game-wear via a number of marks and abrasions throughout the length of the shaft while both sides of the vintage blade tape show some light marks as well. Additionally, there is a small tear to the blade tape on the backhand side that is worth noting for accuracy.
Of note, due to the date stamp found on the underside of the shaft it is possible that the stick was made for Gillies' use at the 1981 Canada Cup tournament as it matches up closely with other Titans that we have handled from other players which were used at the tournament but we have no way of confirming if it was used during the international affair or not.
