Signing with the Montreal Canadiens while only 17, and known throughout his career as a “money” goaltender, playing his best when it mattered most, Gerry McNeil spent five seasons backstopping the Habs and posted a 2.36 career GAA in the NHL. A veteran of 276 National Hockey League games over the course of his career and helping the Canadiens to Stanley Cup championships in 1953, 1957 and 1958, offered here is this vintage 1950's photo of McNeil taken by famed long-time Montreal Forum lensman David Bier. Picturing McNeil in his white Canadiens uniform tending the goal at the fabulous Forum, the posed action image shows McNeil kicking out a leg while standing up to stop a shot on his glove side. Embossed with "David Bier" over the bottom right hand corner of the black and white image that measures roughly 10" x 8 1/4", the reverse sports an ink pad stamp from David Bier Studios as well as "Gerry McNeil" penned in blue ballpoint pen ink over one edge. Remaining in overall good condition, showing just a bit of light edge, corner and surface wear as well as a bit of missing paper in some parts around the edge and a missing top left corner, the surface also shows a small imperfection to the right of the right post. Deemed to be an "AUTHENTIC" Type l photograph by PSA, the image is housed in an oversized PSA holder that remains in excellent condition.
