Instrumental in helping develop the modern game of hockey, Lester Patrick – along with his brother Frank – formed the Pacific Coast Hockey Association in 1911, with many rules evolving from the noteworthy league that are still in use today. Becoming later the coach and manager of the New York Rangers, the position he is most associated with, and contributing to 1928, 1933 and 1940, Patrick would serve as the bench boss for the NHL All-Stars at the Ace Bailey Benefit Game played at Maple Leaf Gardens on Valentine's Day of 1934. Captured here in this image, hailing from the reference department of the Newspaper Enterprise Association based on the ink pad stamp that appears over the reverse, Patrick is seen wearing a sweater worn in the game by the NHL All-Star squad, resting over the crossbar of a net on-ice at Maple Leaf Gardens with his stick in hand and skates on. Measuring roughly 8" x 10" in size and in overall good condition, displaying some corner, edge and surface wear as well as minor creasing and toning plus a bit of a missing corner at the bottom right, the reverse side sports a pencil notation reading "Lester Patrick as coach of the National Hockey League all-stars" to go along with another reading "A9361" that is once again done in pencil. Furthermore, a sticker or label appears to have mostly been removed from the photos reverse, with evidence of its former placement seen at the top right. Deemed to be an "AUTHENTIC" Type l photograph by PSA, the image is housed in an oversized PSA holder that remains in excellent condition.
