Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/24/2025
From the glory days in Edmonton in the 1980s, when the Oilers ruled the NHL and coming from years that saw Edmonton claim the third (3rd) and fourth (4th) Stanley Cup championships in franchise history, offered here are these Edmonton Oilers team-issued postcard sets from the 1986-87 and 1987-88 seasons of play. Still sealed in their original cellophane bags that are sealed at the top with stapled shut cardboard that displays an Oilers primary logo and orange and blue stripes, the 1986-87 release, which features the postcard of Wayne Gretzky on top of the stack, consists of twenty-four (24) postcards in all that measure 3 3/4" x 6 7/8" each in size. With the checklist including notable examples of Gretzky, Anderson, Coffey, Lowe, Messier, Fuhr and Kurri and others, all the cards appear to be in the condition range of EX-MT to NM or better based on what we can see. For the 1987-88 release, consisting of twenty-two (22) postcards, including examples of all the same players listed above, the bag is sealed in the exact same way and once again the postcard of Wayne Gretzky is found on top of the pile. Also seemingly in the same EX-MT to NM condition range based on what we can see, it is worth mentioning that small white stickers that have had the year of release penned over them have been affixed over the labels at the top of each package.
