Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/24/2025
One of the more visually appealing sets released by O-Pee-Chee during the decade of the 1980's and featuring a checklist that consists of 396-cards in all, the company's 1984-85 hockey release is propped up by the a top tier rookie class that includes the likes of Steve Yzerman, Dave Andreychuk, Tom Barrasso, Chris Chelios, Doug Gilmour, Pat LaFontaine, Cam Neely, Dave Poulin and Pat Verbeek among others as well as numerous stars and future Hall of Fame inductees. Offered here, and spared from the hands of card hungry youngsters back in the day, is this lot consisting of an unopened wax pack of O-Pee-Chee's 1984-85 release which has been graded by the professionals at PSA. Featuring generic goalie and player imagery over the front of the wrapper as well as the decree of a contest where you could win a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals, "HOCKEY" appears over the bottom in big bold yellow letters along with the logos of O-Pee-Chee, the NHL, the NHLPA and of course, the original per-pack-purchase price of .35 cents. Housing a total of fifteen (15) cards plus a stick of bubble gum on the interior of the wrapper, the rules of the contest listed over the front are found on the backside of the wrapper. Having been inspected and encapsulated at PSA, earning a mark of NM-MT 8 for its effort, the pack is made even more desirable by the fact that the pack gives us a peek at a copy of Pat Lafontaine's aforementioned rookie card showing through the wrapper on the reverse. A POP 1 example with two having been graded higher out of the only three total like it that have been graded by PSA over the years, the pack is housed in a good condition PSA holder for preservation. A gorgeous survivor, don't miss out on this one for your all-important unopened portfolio!
