Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/24/2025
An all-time favorite premium with collectors and issued in three different sets over an eight-year period during the 1960s, with the first one being released during a year that ended with the Chicago Black Hawks knocking off the Detroit Red Wings for their first hoisting of Lord Stanley since 1938. Offered here, we present this complete set of eleven (11) Montreal Canadiens glasses from the 1960-61 York Peanut Butter Glasses release. Issued at the start of the playoffs in March of 1961 and featuring players of both the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, the first (1st) series of glasses rings in at twenty-one (21) strong with eleven (11) sporting images of Montreal players and ten (10) decorated with Toronto imagery. Including the likes of notables such as Jean Beliveau, Henri Richard, Jacques Plante, Boom Boom Geoffrion and Dickie Moore to go along with Marcel Bonin, Phil Goyette, Tom Johnson, Albert Langlois and Don Marshall, the glasses all stand 4 1/2" in height overall and feature dual player imagery done in the main colour of the team they play for, along with a cartoon referee with listed infraction that is done in white. All remaining in beautiful high-grade condition with just the odd slight blemish throughout, it is also worth noting that each is stamped with an "F" over the bottom, designating each as a first series example that was made by Federal Glass. Also accompanied by an original advertisement for the glasses that measures roughly 6 3/4" x 7" and reads "FREE Autographed Hockey Star Pictures" at the left side, the ad shows an example of a Maple Leafs tumbler and is in overall good condition while sporting some toning, hastily cut edges (a coupon/send away offer was attached at the bottom) and some tears/rips to the left side, the lot is finished off with a cap that was once resting on top of a tumbler, which is in overall excellent condition and shows just some light wear to the edges and underside while being stamped with what looks like "D 3" over the topside.
