An era loaded with Hall of Fame talent, Major League Baseball featured a number of all-time superstars during the late-1970s, including Carl Yastrzemski, Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, Johnny Bench and others. From that glorious era, we offer both 1977 and 1978 O-Pee-Chee complete baseball sets. The 1977 set - which was the first to contain Toronto Blue Jays cards - is complete at 264 cards, while the 1978 set includes 242 cards.
First, for the 1977 set, the average condition range is VG to VG/EX including most stars - with many cards showing corner wear. Highlights include; 37-Yaz (light corner wear, ding bottom left), 45-Carter (OC, light corner wear), 100-Bench (light corner wear), 143-Carew (light corner wear), 156-Winfield (light corner wear), 170-Brett (light corner wear) and 205-Seaver (corner wear) all in the VG/EX to EX range; 240-Rose VG to VG/EX (light corner dings); 245-Schmidt GD to VG (small hairline crease, OC and corner wear); 65-Ryan (OC on back, wear to 2 corners) and 200-Jackson (corner dings) both GD to GD+; 264-Ryan RB GD- (small crease top right). Checklist 124 is unmarked but OC, while checklist 179 is unmarked but creased.
For the 1978 set, the average condition range is VG/EX to EX, with some a bit better and light corner wear throughout. Highlights include; 154-Murray rookie EX/MT (tiny dings bottom right); 50-Bench and 180-Dawson (1st OPC card) both EX to EX/MT; 29-Yount (slight corner wear), 120-Seaver (light corner wear) and 225-Schmidt (light corner wear) all VG/EX to EX; 105-Ryan (top left corner ding, OC), 110-Jackson (corner wear) and 135-Carter (corner wear) all VG to VG/EX; 215-Brett (OC, corner ding and wear) and 241-Ryan RB 9corner dings) both GD to VG; 100-Rose FR to GD (OC, crease). Checklist 119 is unmarked with a small crease, while checklist 183 is unmarked and EX/MT.
