Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/24/2025
A veteran of eighteen seasons in the National Hockey League after being drafted 121st overall by the Philadelphia Flyers at the 1983 NHL Entry Draft, Rick Tocchet would go on to score a total of 440 goals and play in 1,144 games with Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington and Phoenix. Dating to his time with either Philadelphia or Pittsburgh in the early-1990s, we have a signed stick used by Tocchet. A Koho Revolution 2240 model with "Tocchet" stamped to the upper shaft, his number "22" has been penned on the intact white spiral tape job to the handle, with the original black tape on the blade. The white shaft has been darkened, with this probably done as Tocchet switched from white to black coloured Koho Revolution models around 1992-93. We should also note that while there are very few images from the era, with all from the early-1990s showing Koho Revolution models, we could not find any of Tocchet using this model with the same exact matching graphics. The tape job is correct for his sticks, with the accompanying copy of a JSA Auction LOA stating that this stick and others listed at the time of that sale were "Originally obtained by a collector who received items directly from players and team employees in the period". The stick shows light use with minimal wear and marks to the blade and shaft including a few small tears to the blade tape, and wear over the taped handle. Tocchet has signed the upper shaft in thin marker, with the signature a bit worn. A Classic Auctions LOA and a copy of a JSA Auction LOA will accompany.
