Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/29/2025
Extremely frugal regarding production costs, as was the custom during the day, the Parkhurst Company took advantage of the left over stock from the company's production of the 1951-52 card set estimated at 7 million cards of the 25 million produced, and used uncut sheets of 1951-52 cards to produce the wrapper boxes used to distribute the 1952-53 set. We offer an original box, with the image of card #52 Barilko's "The Winning Goal" showing (this is considered one of the most famous goals scored by the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Barilko's last, as he vanished that summer on a hunting and fishing trip to northern Ontario, where his plane disappeared into the deep bush), graded EX+ 5.5 by iCert. The other partial cards showing include Nick Mickoski, Gaye Stewart, Reggie Sinclair, Don Raleigh and Ross Lowe. A must-have for any true Parkhurst 1951-52 or 1952-53 set collector or wrapper enthusiast, this rare box is one of three available in this auction, with each fairly unique in it's combination of players and where the box was cut from the sheet.
