Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/29/2025
Sure to be appealing to both collectors of food issues and premium sets, offered here is this lot that includes items that date from the final years of the Original Six era of the National Hockey League in the form of a complete set of the 1961-62 York Peanut Butter hockey release that includes all forty-two (42) cards in the set which have been pasted into their accompanying album as well as assumed to be complete sets of the Toronto Star "Stars In Action" photos that were released in 1963-64 and 1964-65. Starting with the York Peanut Butter cards, all glued into their accompanying album that were premiums from the company for a cost of .25 cents as previously mentioned above, the yellow backed offerings are highlighted by stars including Jean Beliveau, Jacques Plante, Dave Keon, Tim Horton and others. With a few of the cards showing light glue residue around their edges despite being pasted into the album neatly, most of the cards display excellently with just light surface and edge/corner wear that is worth mentioning as well while a couple also show light folds/creases. Additionally, the album itself is also in good condition, showing expected but albeit light handling wear. For the Toronto Star photos from 1963-64 including forty-two (42) photos in all with no duplicates, seemingly making up a complete set, the grouping featuring photography primarily taken at Maple Leaf Gardens by the legendary Harold Barkley, the star power is impressive thanks to the presence of Bobby Hull, Gordie Howe, Dave Keon, and more, the cards each measure roughly 5" x 7" and have articulate write-ups on each player over the reverses. All appearing in overall good condition with beautiful visual appeal over their fronts, the photos largely sport light wear in the form of edge and corner wear throughout while some of the included images in the release show small fold lines and varying degrees of toning. For the 1964-65 photo set from the Toronto Star, including forty-eight (48) images in all and appearing to be a complete assembly, stars from all six (6) teams of the era are featured, including Boston's Boivin, Green and Johnson, Chicago's Hall, Hay, Hull, Mikita and Pilote, Detroit's Delvecchio, Howe, Ullman and Pronovost (misspelled Provost!), Montreal's Beliveau, Laperriere and Richard, New York's Gilbert, Howell and Plante, and Toronto's Bathgate, Horton, Keon and Mahovlich. All appearing in overall good condition with just some corner and edge wear being the main flaw of the group, a couple of the images have a fold line on the bottom of them from when they were placed in the holders. Additionally, some also show some light folds/creases as well that are worth mentioning for accuracy as well as varying degrees of toning.
