Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/29/2025
Winning the previous three consecutive Stanley Cup championships, the Toronto Maple Leafs battled a team of NHL All-Stars at the 3rd annual NHL All-Star Game, held at Maple Leaf Gardens on October 10, 1949. Bill Barilko would score the Leafs lone goal in a 3-1 loss to the All-Stars, with Maurice Richard and Gordie Howe both serving penalties. Offered here, we present this lot that includes a rare original Turofsky print of the official team photo of the NHL All-Stars taken before battling it out with the Maple Leafs. Including the likes of Hall of Famers Bill Durnan, Chuck Rayner, Jack Stewart, Buddy O'Connor, Roy Conacher, Doug Bentley, Bill Mosienko, Maurice Richard, Edgar Laprade, Bill Quackenbush, Sid Abel, Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay, Ken Reardon and coach, Tommy Ivan, the 8" x 10" image sports a stamp reading "Photo by Turofsky Toronto" over the reverse side of it while the photo itself shows excellent visual appeal despite some wear through numerous creases, edge/corner wear and some liquid staining which is seen in heavier quantities on the reverse instead of the front. Additionally, also included with the lot is an event ticket from the 1948 edition of the NHL All-Star Game that was once in the possession of Gaye Stewart. A simple cream coloured cardstock measuring 6" x 3" and reading "Second Annual N.H.L. Pension Fund Game" with the teams listed being the Toronto Maple Leafs and NHL All-Stars, the ticket has had "Gaye Stewart" typed over it above generic hockey graphics. Having had "1948" penciled over the top right corner on the reverse, the ticket is in overall good condition with wear via a handful of creases.
