Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/29/2025
Terrific group of photos obtained from Jacques Plante’s widow Caroline includes several mini collections. In-uniform shots include an individual and a team photo with the ’52-53 Buffalo Bisons while other group shots are highlighted by two David Bier-stamped 8” by 10”s of the big photos which once hung in the Forum and a ’72-73 Bruins photo. Pictures of Plante in his Canadiens (Bier photo with Stanley Cup), Blues, Leafs, Bruins and Oilers uniforms are all impressive and joined by photos of Plante the coach with Quebec and Philadelphia. Photos from Jacques’ Hall of Fame induction, NHL milestone award presentation and reunion with members of the 1950’s Canadiens’ dynasty are other highlights while miscellaneous portrait shots and eight hockey cards held together with scotch tape are also of note. Obtained from Caroline Plante, with her signed LOA. Also included in this lot, we have three old Spalding Top-Flite golf balls, each with the logo of “American Airlines” and each with Jacques’ name in block letters. Balls are numbered “1”, “2” and “3” and are in near perfect not-played-with condition. A birthday card which Plante received from Lefty Reid of the Hall of Fame includes the blue ballpoint signature of Reid, who wrote “To Jacques, May 1986 continue to bring good health and happiness to you and your good wife, Best Regards.” Sadly, this was the last birthday Plante would be around for; he died February 26, 1986, just five weeks after his January 17th and 57th birthday. Completing the lot is an eye-appealing Montreal Canadiens Christmas card which a Plante family member received from Jean Beliveau in 1992, signed by big Jean in blue ballpoint.
