One of the most iconic goaltenders in NHL history, Ken Dryden made an unforgettable impact
before even playing a full regular-season game. After being called up late in the 1970-71
season, Dryden led the Montreal Canadiens on an improbable Stanley Cup run, backstopping
the team to a championship while winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP—an
unprecedented feat for a rookie. The following season, his official rookie campaign, Dryden
dominated the league, capturing the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year and solidifying his
place as one of hockey’s all-time greats. His 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee rookie card remains one of
the most coveted vintage hockey cards in the hobby.
Graded NM-MT+ 8.5 by PSA, this example is a pop-14, and only bettered by 62 MINT 9 examples and just 13 GEM-MT 10, out of more than 1,500 submitted to PSA over the years. With fewer than 100 examples ever graded 8.5 or better.
The card is housed in its original PSA holder, which shows light scuffing and some fine scratches but generally remains in nice condition. As the defining rookie card of a Hall of Fame goaltender who helped shape an era of dominance for the Canadiens, this piece stands as a must-have for
serious hockey card collectors.
