The country's first gold medal win since 1962, Sweden were crowned champions at the 1987 IIHF World Championships, with the Soviets getting the silver and Czechoslovakia the bronze. Held in Vienna, Austria, 40 total games were played between 8 teams, with IIHF HOFer Vladimir Krutov leading the tournament in scoring. We present a 1987 IIHF World Championship gold medal. Measuring 2 3/4" in diameter with the original blue and yellow ribbon attached and "1987" to the bail, "World Championships" appears in raised letters circling the perimeter on the obverse along with two generic players. Featuring a painted globe IIHF logo with crossed hockey sticks on the reverse, it is encompassed by "International Ice Hockey Federation" in matching style raised letters. The medal displays beautifully and remains in near mint condition, with just a couple small surface blemishes.
