Sabres fan favorite Jim Schoenfeld’s No. 6 game-worn jersey is from the 1981-82 season. Schoenfeld played 13 games for Buffalo that season before he was traded to Detroit on Dec. 2, 1981, including seven road games where the Sabres wore their blue uniforms. Ron Fischer was also assigned No. 6 later on that season, but he only wore it for one home game on Feb. 10, 1982, and never for a road game in blue. The jersey has clear evidence of two former nameplates, including one long one that went from shoulder to shoulder. The second nameplate was 2 ½” shorter on each side and was placed slightly higher as well. Evidence shows that these 1981-82 jerseys were recycled for the following season and used in the 1982-83 pre-season and possibly very early in the regular season so there is a possibility that it was worn by Hall of Famer Phil Housley in some capacity when he made his NHL debut with the Sabres that season.
The jersey measures approximately a size 54 and has rubberized Sandow SK logo screened on the right rear hem that exhibits cracking without any vinyl loss. No. “6” on the back and both sleeves is gold and white double twill that exhibits some puckering and the fight strap loop remains inside the back. Blue durene gamer features the famous crossed-swords Sabres team crest with chain-stitched detailing and matching alternate crests on each shoulder. Game wear includes solid board burn on the right rear hem with several more board burns on each sleeve. There are team repairs on the lower portion of both sleeves and more sewing fixes that were done where the nameplates were previously affixed. Some nice pilling to note inside the jersey on the sleeves and behind the number. A great Sabres gamer that spans their early eras and features some big names in team history.
