Josh Gratton’s professional career can be described best with one word—grit. Known for his
toughness and willingness to drop the gloves, Gratton formed a hard-nosed career in the NHL
and beyond. Undrafted, he fought his way into the league and made his NHL debut with the
Philadelphia Flyers during the 2005-06 season. Over 86 NHL games with the Flyers and
Phoenix Coyotes, Gratton recorded 3 goals, 3 assists, and 294 penalty minutes.
His final NHL appearances came during the 2008-09 season with the Flyers, marking the
conclusion of his time in the league. Gratton also had a successful career in the AHL and played
overseas in the KHL and European leagues, where his physical style of play remained a
defining element of his game.
This lot includes two game-worn jerseys from Gratton’s time with the Philadelphia Phantoms.
The first jersey is from the 2008-09 season, a size 56 Reebok jersey featuring the Reebok crest
on the reverse neckline and the Phantoms’ team patches on both shoulders. An American
Showplace patch is located on the left breast. The jersey shows clear signs of game wear,
including a small mark on the bottom of the jersey, with a faint bloodstain on the left shoulder. The right arm displays a small board burn and a dark stain on the sleeve, while the left arm has several small stains that appear to be dried blood. “GRATTON” appears in white tackle twill on a purple nameplate on the back of the jersey, which also features a small puck mark on the bottom. A small hole is present on the bottom left fabric. The number “13” is featured on both arms and the back in orange over black tackle twill. AHL and Reebok patches are sewn onto the back hem, with a MeiGray patch affixed inside the jersey. A securely affixed fight strap is located inside the jersey. This jersey comes with a MeiGray LOA.
The second jersey is from the 2004-05 Calder Cup championship season, the year the Philadelphia Phantoms won the
Calder Cup. This size 58 SP-made jersey features a special Saint Patrick’s Day design with an
emerald green base and four-leaf clover patches on both shoulders. The AHL patch is
positioned on the reverse neckline. The left arm has a brown stain over the “2” and a small rip
on the elbow. On the back, “GRATTON” is displayed in white single twill on an emerald green
nameplate. A bold signature in black marker appears over the top of the “2,” with a four-leaf
clover patch located below the number. The number “24” is displayed on both arms and the
back in white over gold tackle twill. SP and AHL crests are affixed to the hem. A securely affixed
fight strap is located inside the jersey.
