Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
While little is known about the team, the "Mechanics" football (soccer) club were apparently champions of the Western F.B.C in 1895 (presumably stands for "Foot Ball Conference"), with dual images of this team on the interior and outer side of this original late-19th century cigar box. Manufactured by Meinke & Meisner of Berlin, Ontario (Kitchener), the team photo graces the inside of the lid, with the second image on the right outer panel. "Mechanics" is also stamped to the box lid and front panel, with the original tax stamp encompassing the box almost fully intact. The lid is still perfectly attached to the box, and we can report just expected handling wear, with the box surviving in excellent condition overall.
