This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Always popular and talked about highly among those collectors that chase vintage offerings, Parkhurst’s inaugural hockey release from the 1951-52 season is up for grabs here in complete set form with all of the 105 cards that make up the checklist being present and accounted for. Featuring both options and rookie cards galore, the group is paced by the rookie offerings of the set's "big three" including Maurice Richard and Terry Sawchuk, both of whom have just returned from grading at PSA, as well as "Mr. Hockey", Gordie Howe. Starting with the graded cards, including the aforementioned specimens of Maurice Richard (PSA VG-EX 4), Terry Sawchuk (PSA GD 2) and Gordie Howe (PSA VG 3), additional cards that have been graded include the likes of the set's lead off card that pictures Elmer Lach over the front (KSA VGE 4), Bert Olmstead (KSA ENM+ 6.5) and Woody Dumart (PSA EX-MT 6) have also been encapsulated as well. Of note, other than the two cards that have been freshly graded, all the the other holders, while remaining in good condition, show scratches and scuffs over both sides that are worth mentioning for accuracy. For the remaining cards, all found in their original raw and ungraded form, the assembly is found to be in the overall grade ranges of G to VG and FR to G for their efforts, with the key cards including 10-Harvey RC (FR to G - scuff and paper loss on front), 14-Geoffrion (GOOD - scuff at bottom right and crease on the reverse), 15-McNeil RC (VG to VG-EX - tiny factory wrinkle at bottom left), 19-Henry RC (FR to G - creased), 29-Schmidt RC (FR to G - creased), 37-Gadsby RC (G to VG - surface and corner wear), 47-Lumley RC (G to VG - faded printing), 48-Bentley RC (FR to G - creased), 49-Mosienko RC (GOOD - light crease), 52-Winning Goal (G to VG - faded and scuff at bottom left corner), 55-Kelly RC (FR to G - faded printing of name), 56-Lindsay RC (GOOD - corner wear and scuff on reverse), 63-Delvecchio (G to VG - light crease), 64-Abel (GOOD - pair of light creases), 70-Watson RC (G to VG - corner wear), 72-Meeker RC (FR to G - creases), 75-Broda (G to VG - surface wear), 76-Rollins RC (FR to G - creased), 86-Kennedy RC (FR to G - creased), 94-Stanley RC (GOOD - light crease), 104-Rayner RC (VG - left side corner wear) and 105-Conacher RC (VG-EX to EX - tiny ding to bottom left corner). For the rest of the set not listed above, thirteen (13) cards are seen as being in the scope of VG to VG-EX, thirty-four (34) cards are around G to VG shape, twenty-two (22) cards are in the neighbourhood of FR to G condition, six (6) cards are in the range of PR to F and lastly, a pair (2) of cards present as POOR. Perhaps the most famous hockey card set of all-time, don't miss out on this complete assembly for your portfolio!
