Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/21/2024
Originally drafted 45th overall by the St. Louis Blues at the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft, Tom Roulston would play a total of 195 National Hockey League games over the course of his career with 137 of them being spent in the uniform of the Edmonton Oilers between 1980 and 1983. Offered here, we present this Oilers jersey worn by Roulston during the 1980-81 season, his first in the league. An all-mesh construction second set offering made by Sandow SK, brand and washing instruction labels that display a handwritten "48" size designation in black ballpoint pen are affixed to the inner collar while "Sandow SK" is screened over the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with a familiar Oilers team crest in flight satin that features "Oilers" and other details embroidered into it, the sleeves and verso have been styled with Roulston's number "23" in dual layer orange-over-white flight satin numerals while "Roulston" has been embroidered via thin white thread letters into the affixed matching blue mesh nameplate. Utilizing a loop style fight strap on the interior and only worn for a trio of games during the year (February 21st vs Winnipeg, March 3rd New York Islanders and March 4th vs New York Rangers), the jersey exhibits just light game wear through a stick mark at the top of the team crest and a board burn near the left elbow, along with sweat staining around the collar. A rarely seen short lived style worthy of any collection, it is also worth noting that there are spot stains seen throughout the front of the piece including at one side of the Oilers crest.
