Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
Constructed during the Great Depression in a mere five and a half months at a cost of $1.5 million, Maple Leaf Gardens opened it's doors in November of 1931, with the Maple Leafs losing 2–1 to the Chicago Blackhawks in the historic venue's first hockey game. The home of Toronto's beloved Leafs until 1999, the Gardens hosted countless Stanley Cup matches along with the first unofficial All-Star Game with the benefit held for Leafs' star Ace Bailey, in 1934. We have a pair of MLG stock certificates from 1987 each valued at one share. At 8" x 12", each document sports an image of the famous arena along with "Maple Leaf Gardens, Limited", with facsimile signatures of President Harold Ballard and Secretary A. Campbell Burgess. Each is also stamped with the date of "Dec 21 1987", with the pair currently stapled together, with each exhibiting surface wear including some minor wrinkling and a few small stains.
