Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966, Ted “Teeder” Kennedy played his entire 696 game National Hockey League career in the uniform of the Toronto Maple Leafs, leading the blue and white to five Stanley Cup’s and serving as captain in eight of his 14 seasons. Offered here, is this Wallace Sterling Silver Silverware Set (70 Pieces) presented to Ted Kennedy on October 8th 1955 by Henry Birks & Sons. Having retired after the 1954-55 season, the set is attributed as likely having been presented to Kennedy as a retirement gift in a pre-game ceremony of some sort as the date marked the Leafs home opener for the 1955-56 season. Consisting of 70 total pieces that are housed in a walnut presentation box that is not original to the set but still vintage, an included plaque reads “Presented to “Ted” Kennedy by Henry Birks & Sons October 8, 1955”. On the interior, a paper disc label reading “King’s Plate Anti-Tarnish Lined McGlashan Clarke Co. Ltd Niagara Falls” is found, with the entirely of the box lined in red felt. In a rose point pattern, inventory includes; dinner knives (15), dessert knives (5), butter knives (6), a butter serving knife (1), dinner forks (9), dessert forks (8), salad forks (3), a desert serving knife (1), a silver handled wooden dessert serving spoon (1), a carving fork (1), tea spoons (8), dessert spoons (6), a sugar serving spoon (1) and a small soup ladle (1). It is unknown if other pieces were included or if the set is complete. Of note, the knifes in the upper compartment in the individual sleeves are marked ''Wallace Stainless'' on their blades but the handles seem to be sterling silver with the rest of the silverware in the upper compartment marked ''Wallace Sterling''. In the lower compartment, the knives are of similar style, being marked “Wallace Stainless” on the blades but having what seem to be sterling silver handles with the other pieces in the lower compartment has “stainless” on most of the blades while “sterling'' showing up on some of the handles which again all seem to be sterling silver. Remaining in good condition, an LOA from the Kennedy family will accompany.
