Crowned the National League MVP in 1927 and a three-time NL batting champion, Paul Waner became the seventh member of the famed 3000 hit club on June 19th, 1942. Playing 15 of his 20 Major League seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Waner was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame as a member of the 1952 induction class. Presented here is this Boston Red Sox Baseball Hall of Fame watch presented to Waner. Made by Lord Elgin, the face of the watch reads “Baseball Hall of Fame” with the letters of “Boston Red Sox” making up the hours around the edge. The backside of the case in engraved with “May 7, 1955” above “Paul Waner”. The origin of the watch is relatively unknown except for it seemingly having been presented to Waner by the Red Sox (who played in the 1955 Baseball Hall of Fame game that season on July 25th) with other examples for Al Simmons, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Cochrane surfacing at auction previously. Both the watch face and the gold-coloured elastic metal band remains in good condition and the watch was functional when wound. The watch comes with its original box and presentation pillow, both in excellent condition.
