Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
The first of many promotions by the company throughout the following decades, Quaker Oats began issuing hockey photo cards of Montreal and Toronto players during the 1938-39 NHL season in conjunction with the “Maple Leaf Bantam Hockey Club” memberships. We have a complete set of 30, which is rarely offered. At 6 ¼” x 7 3/8” and executed on thick card stock, the cards all feature an attractive border and black and white image, and include Broda (corner creases), Boll (corner crease), Apps (paper loss), Thoms, Parsons, Metz (corner creases), Kelly, Kampman, Jackson, Horner ( a few small stains), Hamilton, Fowler, Drillon (corner crease), Davidson (corner creases) and Chamberlain (corner creases) for the Leafs, and Blake, Gagnon, Evans, Cude, Cain, Buswell, Gracie, Haynes, Lorrain, Mantha (corner crease), Drouin, Ward, Wentworth and Seibert (small stain) for the Canadiens – with many of the Habs cards showing glue residue on the reverse. Lastly, there is also a card of Foster Hewitt. The group shows light to moderate wear unless otherwise noted.
